On March 7, 2024. The Rivian R2 was announced.

I immediately put a $100 reservation in place. I was an hour behind the very first, but I am definitely near the top of the list. Also, since we got a used 2023 Rivian R1S last year, we should receive even higher priority.
It seemed like a more reasonably priced and sized vehicle for our family. Of course, I was also someone who put down a deposit for a Cybertruck in 2019. Of course that vehicle promised 500 miles at $40K. I was willing to overlook the look for the specs. But I cancelled my reservation in 2023 when it was going to be $61K for only 340 miles of range.

Now the R2 is going to be almost the exact same range and price three years later. It also doesn’t look like a dumpster.

It has been getting early rave reviews.
Rivian employees have started taking delivery of the R2s this month. And according to emails, customers can start building out their cars in June.
Meaning it is time to choose colors

…and start thinking about a new ride this summer.
