A-List Sadness

A-List Sadness

My second summer of A-List is over. It was nowhere near as successful as my first, and I blame Hollywood! I only saw 20 movies in my six months of ownership. At $145, this is $7.25 per movie, half the price of a Dolby Cinema matinee ($14.89) at my local theater. This makes it still a solid value, but I saw 35 in 2023.

Anything Good?

There were many movies I was glad I saw, but I will probably never see them again. Movies I would buy the 4K disc for would be:

  • Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
  • Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
  • Trap
  • Deadpool & Wolverine
  • Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
  • Transformers One
  • Wild Robot

I say Trap only because I enjoy Shyamalan and collect his movies. The same is true for Planet of the Apes, as I have the entire series.

I was glad I could see Shaun of the Dead via A-List. I hadn’t seen that movie in a long time, and it was wonderful to see it in theaters.

What Did I Miss?

I did miss some March movies because I did not already have a subscription, and they were leaving theaters: Kung Fu Panda 4, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. I still have not seen any of these, so I’m not broken up about it.

I still want to see The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, but it is not streaming anywhere else besides Stars. I also didn’t see Bad Boys 4, Borderlands, Smile 2, or Joker 2. I would have liked to have seen these movies for fun, but I also don’t feel too bad about missing them.

Ballerina, Kraven the Hunter, and Saw XI all got delayed.

What’s Next?

I posted about upcoming movies recently, and my opinion still holds. I will still sit out the rest of Fall/Winter because there are not any movies I want to see. If my wife wants to see any, we can still go, as I have some gift cards and yellow tickets we can still use. But 2024 was not a great year for movies.
