Current State of My Sport Teams

Red Bull

When I became a Red Bull fan, I knew I supported a successful team and a future World Champion, but I did not expect 2023. Before the season started, I bet at even money that Max would win the Driver’s Championship and Red Bull the Constructors’ Championship. I’m feeling good.

Max is winning races without effort, and he and his teammate have won every race before the summer break. In 1988, McLaren won 15 of 16 races. Red Bull has won the first 12, with 10 remaining. There have been no signs of engine issues like last year. Some races have been snoozefest, but there has also been some surprising drama.

Chicago Cubs

I did not have high hope for the Cubs year, and they are performing about as well as I expected. The odd part is that the rest of the NL Central has been mediocre, and they are actually in playoff contention. I still wanted them to part ways with Cody Bellinger at the trading deadline, but hopefully, he can click with the team and make a playoff push. They’ve had an easy schedule for the second half of the season so far, and while they may make a Wild Card, I don’t expect to see them late in October.

Chicago Bears

The Bears have a definitive season coming up that weighs heavily on Justin Fields’ shoulders. He needs to show that he can make a Hurts-like improvement and truly lead a team. There aren’t enough pieces for a championship team, but they will be expected to make a playoff push. They have a projected win total of 7.5, and I’m hopeful for a 9-8 season.

University of Illinois Sports

I will be attending the Fall opener to watch Illinois face Toledo. Surprisingly, the Illinois football team got some top 25 votes. Their defense lost some stars but will hopefully be a top performer. They have been looking to play back-to-back bowl games for the first time since 2011.

The basketball team has been struggling since Ayo left. They have had a few fringe pro players but have been unable to perform as a team. Coach Underwood will be under extreme pressure this year after another early exit from the tournament.

What Else?

Is it time to get on the STL City Football Club? Or the Blues? Blackhawks? I’ll probably stick to video games.
