Song Title: Adore
Artist: Amy Shark
Food Reinterpretation: Sonic Slushy
Concept: Comedic reinterpretation of Amy Shark’s “Adore” as a song about intense, slightly unhinged obsession with Sonic Slushies from Sonic Drive-In.
Logline: A person’s passionate, all-consuming “love” is revealed to be for a sugary, ice-cold Sonic Slushy.
Director’s Vision: Brightly comedic, visually playful, and tonally ironic. Juxtapose the passionate, yearning lyrics of a love song with the mundane (yet to our lead, profound) object of affection – a Sonic Slushy. Humor derives from the over-the-top expression of affection towards a drink, literal interpretations of romantic lyrics within a Sonic context, and the contrast between sincere emotional delivery and the absurd subject.
Act Breakdown
Act 1: Initial Infatuation – A Glimpse of “Adoration”
Visual: Video opens with classic “crush” scenario tropes. Our LEAD is visually lovestruck, sighing dreamily, gazing longingly into the distance, walking in a daze. Shots are slightly soft focus, warm hues, romantic lighting, implying deep affection for someone.
Lyric/Visual: “I’m just gonna stand with my bag hanging off my left arm / I’m just gonna walk home kicking stones at parked cars” – Lead is doing exactly this – walking down a suburban street looking forlorn, bag swinging, dejectedly kicking pebbles. Implies post-encounter wistfulness.
Lyric/Visual: “But I had a great night, ’cause you kept rubbing against my arm” – Flashback to the “great night.” The “rubbing” is revealed to be the condensation and coldness of a SONIC SLUSHY CUP against the Lead’s arm in a car cup holder. Initial humor reveal – the “great night” wasn’t romantic, it was just acquiring a Sonic Slushy. Mood shifts subtly towards comedic expectation.
Event: Establish the Lead’s seemingly deep emotional state, but slowly hint that the object of their affection might be unconventional. End Act 1 by fully revealing the Sonic Slushy as the focus. Mood: Starts romantic/longing, transitions to curious/comically suggestive.
Act 2: Escalating Slushy Devotion
Lyric/Visual: “Get me a drink, I get drunk off one sip just so I can adore you” – Lead is now at a Sonic drive-in. Orders a large Slushy. Exaggerated slow-motion shot of taking a TINY SIP.
Lyric/Visual: “I want the entire street out of town just so I can be alone with you” – Surreal visual. The Lead is now standing in a completely empty suburban street. Every building and car has vanished, except for a single slushy in the distance and the Lead slowly running towards it in pure joy.
Lyric/Visual: “All of my money is spent on these nights, just so we can hang out” – Montage: Rapid shots of the Lead frantically counting out spare change and rummaging for coins in couch cushions to pay for a single slushy with coins after staring at the happy hour prices.
Lyric/Visual: “My head’s getting heavy pressed against your arm” – Lead falls asleep as the slushy slowly spills out as it acts as a pillow.
Act 3: Unhinged Passion & Bittersweet Consummation
Lyric/Visual: “I kick the gutter in tight shorts, basketball courts / Watch me watch him talk to girls” Our lead sees a group of friends at a basketball court talking, drinking Sonic drinks without them.
Lyric/Visual: “I’m known as a right-hand slugger / Anybody else wanna touch my lover?” – The Lead rips the slushy (slow-mo) out of a friend’s hand. The friend looks on in disgust and confusion.
Climax/Tragicomic Consummation: The Lead dumps all the slushies over themselves.
Ending: The lead is alone with multiple slushy cups and liquid all over the ground. Slowly fading out, revealing how absurd their situation is.
Visual/Technical Highlights
Visuals: Contrast the initial soft, romantic aesthetic of Act 1 with the increasingly bright, slightly cartoonish and exaggerated visuals of Act 2 & 3 as the obsession escalates. Emphasize Sonic branding subtly throughout (Sonic logos, red and yellow color palette accents).
Comedy Style: Visual and physical comedy. Understated performance of over-the-top emotions towards a Slushy.
Sound: Original Song.
Editing: Upbeat, pop-music video pacing, with moments of slow-motion and held shots for comedic timing. Quick cuts for montages and faster sequences, juxtaposed with slower, lingering shots on the Lead’s expressions of Slushy adoration and slight melancholic ending.
